Welcome to Waves and Woodlands

At Waves and Woodlands, learning is an expedition-everyone is a part of a crew not a passenger on one. 

Our school is built on the core tenets of Expeditionary Learning: developing courageous leaders, producing high quality work that matters, cultivating character, and pursuing genuine mastery of skills.  We believe in educating the whole child, because the most important classroom is the world itself.  

Each grade level embarks on deep, meaningful expeditions-immersive learning, journeys driven by fieldwork, primary source investigation, collaboration with experts, and hands-on exploration of real places and real questions. Literacy and mathematics aren't separate subjects layered on top, they are the tools our students use to investigate, make meaning and communicate their discoveries.

Our students don't just learn about the outdoors, they develop into skilled, capable people within it.  They build competencies that will serve them for a lifetime while growing into critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, artists, musicians, and active contributors to their communities. 

At Waves and Woodlands, we don't prepare kids for the world some day.  We send them into it now.
